Eliot ************************************************** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 11/15/96 Iowa Association of Railroad Passengers-1 Contact: George Davison 515-288-6532 (work) or Dick Welch 319-362-6824 (work) or 626-2359 (home) Rail Passenger Group to Meet in Osceola (Osceola, Iowa)--The Iowa Association of Railroad Passengers will meet at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23rd, at the Quilt Patch Family Restaurant in Osceola. Association President Richard F. "Dick" Welch says Osceola Mayor Fred Diehl will give a presentation to the group about restoration plans for the Amtrak depot in Osceola. The restoration is being done by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad. Amtrak trains from Chicago to the west coast go through Osceola. An additional part of the program is expected to be an update on the status of the proposal for an additional Amtrak passenger train through Iowa from Clinton, through Cedar Rapids, Marshalltown, Ames and Carroll to Council Bluffs. An update on nationwide Amtrak service will also be provided at the meeting. The public is welcome to attend the meeting and there is no charge to attend. The Quilt Patch Family Restaurant is located at 130 Fillmore Avenue, Osceola, on the southwest corner of the square. There will be an informal, order-off-the-menu lunch at 11:00 a.m. prior to the meeting which the public is also welcome to attend. The Iowa Association of Railroad Passengers is a statewide non-profit citizens' organization advocating rail transportation. It was formed in 1981 to strengthen the voice of the rail user in Iowa. The group holds its meetings throughout the state. Meeting locations have included: Williamsburg, Burlington, Boone, Iowa City, Council Bluffs, Cedar Rapids, Atlantic, Ames and Des Moines. The organization is affiliated with the National Association of Railroad Passengers in Washington, D.C.
